El Legal LAB de Términos y Condiciones, en colaboración con el equipo de A definitivas, lanza nuestra última iniciativa: Derecho Ficción.

O lo que es lo mismo, explicar y aprender Derecho a partir de tus películas, series, cómics y libros favoritos.

Si tu pregunta tras verlo es: “¿¡De qué va esta rayada!?”, ¡bien! :p

Derecho Ficción es una iniciativa que busca explicar conceptos jurídicos y multitud de cuestiones legales que nos afectan en el día a día a todos. Pero va a hacerlo en un contexto muy distinto al habitual y a la vez mucho más agradable y cercano para el ciudadano de a pie: nuestros mundos de ficción favoritos.

Por ello, Derecho Ficción pretende ser una herramienta pedagógica para transmitir conocimiento jurídico, con una análisis legalmente riguroso de las cuestiones y materias a tratar, pero rompiendo por completo con la habitual barrera idiomática del mundo jurídico al adaptar el contenido a un público no experto. 

¿Esto en ejemplos cómo se traduce? Pues que hablaremos de protección de datos personales, analizando cuestiones propias de la normativa, pero exclusivamente desde el universo de Los Simpson. O que analizaremos la vida de un entrenador de Pokémon y las múltiples cuestiones jurídicas que le deberían afectar en su día a día. O que estudiaremos muchos escenarios presentados por Black Mirror desde el punto de vista del derecho penal.

Y muchas más cosas. Además, sin olvidar que analizaremos situaciones o escenas particulares de las series, películas o cómics desde una perspectiva jurídica, para ofrecer otro punto de vista a esos momentos.

Hoy presentamos la iniciativa con el tráiler, a partir de día 9 de octubre en nuestro canal de Youtube y en el blog de A definitivas, publicaremos el primer capítulo (de unos 12 – 15 minutos cada uno) y un post de acompañamiento para cada uno de ellos. Esta primera temporada constará de al menos 10 capítulos/posts. :p

Finalmente, y antes de que alguien saque la lanza de la propiedad intelectual ;p, decir que el proyecto es sin ánimo de lucro y que el mismo realizará un análisis y juicio crítico de las obras citadas con el objeto de formar y divulgar en relación al mundo jurídico. Por lo tanto, se enmarca de pleno en el ámbito del art. 32.1 del RDL 1/1996, de 12 de abril, por el que se aprueba el texto refundido de la Ley de Propiedad Intelectual. Esperemos que el algoritmo de Youtube también esté de acuerdo. :S

Queremos que el Derecho deje de ser un mueble en el desván para convertirse en uno que ocupe la sala de estar.

Converses TyC: fostering the promotion of legal tech content in Balearic Islands

Nowadays is key to promote legal knowledge in the hyper-digitalized society that we live in. After all, to know the rules of the game is always important.

To share that knowledge beyond the places and venues that usually talk about legal content, and to do it in plain English, is basic too.

Finally, to know the companies and people that work and study new technologies around you, is a necessity.

With this concept in mind, “Converses TyC” is born from the Legal LAB of Términos y Condiciones. The idea is to organize a series of face-to-face events around Balearic Islands to talk about technology and its laws. On one hand the people that work and manage the tech. On the other hand, the people that study and apply the norms.

The purpose is to go beyond Majorca (this is a long term project, so we are not in a hurry). We don’t want to focus on a specific place (there is life beyond Palma). It won’t have a fixed calendar (maybe 6 events per year). It will be free and open to everyone interested (without the need for inscription, whenever that’s possible). Finally, promoting the digital aspects of it (for example, through streaming or shorts videos of the presentations).

Now that the introduction is done, we’ll start “Converses TyC” on July 1st, Friday, in relation to 3D printing, in Manacor and with 3DSOS.

We’ll start at 18:30 with Andreu Pascual Canaves, industrial and technical engineer, owner of www.3dsos.es. His passion is digital design and prototyping. He’s been working for the last three years in the world of 3D printing, initially as a hobbyist, now as a professional. Andreu will talk about the use of the technology on a domestic level or how to prepare a digital archive for 3D printing.

In my case, Jorge Morell Ramos, I’ll join Andreu to speak about some of the legal aspects that must be taken into consideration in relation to 3D printing. For example, what if I decide to setup a 3D printer on my business, a stationery. Could I attend any request from my clients?

Then we will have some time for questions and discussion.

Therefore, “Converses Tyc” starts on Friday, July 1st, from 18:30 to 20:00, in Wohaby Manacor.

Converses TyC: potenciando la difusión de contenido jurídico-tecnológico en las Islas

Difundir conocimiento jurídico en el contexto hiper digitalizado de nuestros días, es clave. Al fin y al cabo, conocer las reglas del juego en el que nos movemos siempre es importante.

Compartir ese contenido más allá de los lugares en los que normalmente se habla de materias legales, y hacerlo además en términos sencillos y cercanos, es básico.

Conocer a las empresas y personas locales que trabajan y estudian esas nuevas tecnologías, resulta necesario.

Con esas ideas, nace desde el Legal LAB de Términos y Condiciones la iniciativa “Converses TyC”, una serie de eventos presenciales a lo largo y ancho de las Islas Baleares que pretende hablar de la tecnología y sus normas con las personas que tratan y manejan esa tecnología, y las que estudian y tratan sus normas.

La idea es llegar a alcanzar todas las Islas (es un proyecto de largo plazo, por tanto no hay prisa). Sin centrarse en un lugar concreto (hay vida más allá de Palma), sin una regularidad fija (quizá 6 eventos al año), gratuito y abierto a todo el mundo (sin necesidad de inscripción). Y potenciando la vertiente digital (retransmisión por streaming siempre que sea posible, y como mínimo resumen en vídeo posterior).

Hechas las presentaciones, iniciamos “Converses TyC” el viernes 1 de julio en relación a la impresión 3D, en Manacor y con 3DSOS.

Comenzaremos a las 18:30, para que Andreu Pascual Canaves, ingeniero técnico e industrial y responsable de www.3dsos.es. Apasionado por el diseño digital y la fabricación de prototipos, trabaja desde hace 3 años el mundo de la impresión 3D, inicialmente a nivel hobby, ahora ya profesional. Hablará sobre el uso de la tecnología a nivel doméstico o sobre cómo puede prepararse un archivo digital para su impresión en 3D.

Yo por mi parte, Jorge Morell Ramos, me sumaré para hablar de algunas de las cuestiones legales que deben tenerse en consideración, como si decido instalar una impresora 3D en mi negocio abierto al público, por ejemplo una papelería, ¿debo atender cualquier petición de mis clientes?

Luego dedicaremos un tiempo a preguntas y debate.

Por tanto, “Converses Tyc” comienza el viernes 1 de julio de 18:30 a 20:00, en Wohaby Manacor.

In September of 2015, Terms and Conditions debuted its new logo and a new initiative, a Legal LAB. Well then, after some hard work, the first fruit of the LAB is here, the Tracker of Terms and Conditions.

WHAT IS THE TRACKER OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS?

A big evolution of the previous and more primitive version that I’ve been using for the last two years as a “handmade” way to track when and how the terms and conditions change.

The new tracker is an active surveillance tool that almost in real time tracks and monitors what service has changed its terms and conditions, when has that change happened, what document changed, the percentage of text that was modified and how did it change relative to the previous version of the document.

WHO ARE THE CREATORS?

From the Terms and Conditions “Legal LAB”, the creators of the Tracker of Terms and Conditions are: Jorge Morell Ramos, this humble servant :p, and Alberto de Rodrigo Aparicio, a developer obsessed with the idea to make the most out of the legal engineering. For more information.

WHAT INFORMATION DOES THE TRACKER OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS OFFER?

Besides the data already mentioned and shown below in the picture  (who changes it, when does it change, what does it change and how does it change), the tracker also says what kind of change it was. That means that every change detected is tagged taking into account if it was notified or not to the user and the type of content modified.  

That way, using a color-system, the user can know if an important change was notified or not (green or red) or if the change was not important (orange). For more information.

Then, using your RSS feed reader, you can be up to date with all the changes, or just the ones from a particular company or service. Just follow the breadcrumbs > > > from a specific change.

HOW MANY SERVICES DOES THE TRACKER OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS MONITOR?

Nowadays, a little over 5.200 services and more than 7.000 terms and conditions. However, those numbers grow daily (sometimes more, sometimes less).

About the numbers, one important fact is that right now the tracker monitors the privacy policies of more than 4.000 services that were adhered to the now invalid Safe Harbor Framework. That means that 90-95% of the services that complied with Safe Harbor are tracked by the Tracker of Terms and Conditions.

HOW MUCH DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE INFORMATION FROM THE TRACKER OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS?

Nothing.

The last change from every text is available for everyone and this is not going to change for the time being. But as has already been said, the purpose of the “Legal LAB” from Terms and Conditions is to do legal engineering and share the knowledge gained out of it.

So, all the info is available for free and probably more is coming in the future.

We are making an announcement, today. Well, more than one in fact

On the one hand, Terms and Conditions now has an official logo. Hopefully for a long time.

On the other hand, and the important update in fact, we are opening a Legal LAB.

Why a Legal LAB?

First of all, let’s start explaining the idea behind a Legal LAB.

The feeling is that the legal world is not very pro innovation, to the point that sometimes it even avoids the advances that technology can bring to the table (as an example, an article about why the lawyers still don’t trust the email – in Spanish -).

However, it’s obvious that in the legal sector plenty of innovation can happen. In fact, it is essential that it does. Because as in any field or sector, you adapt or die. And truth be told, if that innovation does not come from within, sooner or later will come from the outside and then the change could be more extreme.

Similar initiatives are already out there (Legalitas LAB or the Laboratorio Jurídico from Abanlex). Therefore, to be innovative is a necessity to stand at the forefront. That is why I think that building a Legal LAB can become something useful for the users and who knows, even the sector.

The initiative is modest in the number of human and economic resources available, but nevertheless, I think it has enough to have some impact on the short, mid and even long term. After all, I do not think that you need a lot of money to innovate.

So, instead of being all day talking about legal innovation, let’s make it real with the resources and options available. And let’s see what happens.

It goes without saying that initially the first projects we’ll be developed internally, but that the initiative is opened to external collaborations. Nowadays does not make a lot of sense to develop this kind of project as a lone wolf. Therefore, if someone wants to suggest something, we can talk about it.

The first experiment will be published during October, and hopefully there will be more for the years to come. In any case, all the experiments will be stored on the Legal LAB page, as well as news about the next ones.

I’ve included two very modest examples that were built during the first three years of Terms and Conditions. If truth be told, they are very simple compared to the ones that are coming. But I think that they can offer a pretty good idea about how to develop something different in Law using technology that is totally free. That’s how the Map of Terms and Conditions and Terms and Conditions by Age were born.
